Gym History

In 1980 the original location of Victoria Gymnastics was in the annex directly behind Christ Church Cathedral at 912 Vancouver Street. As a result of growth, the facility at 2829 Quesnel St. became our home in 1992, and then we moved again in 2004 to 2051 Store Street. Next, in 2016, we opened our 2nd facility in Colwood at 520 Mount View Ave. In September 2024, Matt Barker, a 17 year veteran coach, purchase the downtown location and continues the long established business practices Victoria's families have enjoyed for 45 years and counting.

All the while the current director/owner, Andy Poirier (club member since 1980), and program managers Shirley Campbell and Shaun Dalzell have provided the school with the consistency required to build a school that has stood the test of time as Victoria’s premier gymnastics organization.

Since our start, over 120,000 children have taken part in our various programs. It’s not uncommon that a student who attended in the early eighty’s has their own children enrolled in a program – they are usually quite surprised to see our familiar faces.

  • We guarantee our ratio of 8 students per instructor for all of our monthly programs.
  • Our facility is permanently set up with state of the art equipment for both boys and girls.
  • Fees are assessed month to month.
  • We have experienced instructors who are continually upgrading their knowledge base through additional certification and coaching clinics.
  • Our program structure is highly organized and rewards students as the progress throughout the entire learning process of each of the 14 levels.
  • We are 100% Canadian owned and operated.
  • We provide a high-level gymnastics experience in a non-competitive environment.
  • We look forward to the continued growth of our business by providing Victoria with a gymnastics experience that is well-structured, fun, and safe.

Our 14 colour/level ‘Medallion Program’ has been modeled after the national system. The actual medallion is gold in colour while the colour of the sticker represents progress being made. Each time your child receives an award (Step 1, Step 2 or Mastered) he/she has the opportunity to either:

a) advance within a color/level or
b) move on to the next color/level.

Within each level, there exists an average of 100 gymnastics skills that are distributed among the floor exercise, rings, vault, parallel bars, uneven bars, high bar, trampoline(s), pommel horse and balance beam. These skills progress in their complexity as students master each successive medallion.

achievement steps

The percentage range represents the total number of skills that have been successfully demonstrated to an instructor. Once your child has mastered a level, he/she will begin working on the next level up and, upon the next testing session (3 per 10 month session), a new medallion will be issued. The medallions progress in difficulty as follows: Burgundy, Red, Tan, Bronze, Purple, Blue, Turquoise, Silver, Orange, Yellow, Green, Gray, White and Gold.

Note: Unclaimed medallions will be available at the office for 30 days following awards week.
